Café Simon
Cafe Simon is a true Passau institution when it comes to coffee, cake and fine confectionery. The family-run patisserie has been spoiling guests for generations with care and craftsmanship: homemade cakes, artfully decorated pralines, fine confectionery and seasonal specialities are all made in the in-house bakery. Step up to the display case and you face the pleasant agony of choice between classic cream cakes, fruit slices and buttery pastries.
In the cosy cafe rooms and at the counter, half of Passau meets for a relaxed chat. Over a Viennese melange, a cappuccino or a hot chocolate and a slice of apple strudel, the afternoon drifts pleasantly by. The setting is genteel yet unfussy, the service friendly and well practised. The cafe is also a popular address for small gifts, such as a box of homemade pralines.
The central old-town location, just steps from St. Stephen's Cathedral and the town hall square, makes Cafe Simon the ideal stop on a walk through the city of three rivers. Whether as a reward after the cathedral organ concert, a meeting point with friends or simply a sweet break in between, here the tradition of the cosy patisserie cafe is lovingly upheld.
