Danube Cycle Path named a top route once again
The Danube Cycle Path through Passau is again among the most popular long-distance routes — the stretch from the Danube's source to Vienna scores with river scenery and baroque towns.
The Danube Cycle Path has once again been named one of the most popular long-distance cycle routes in the German-speaking region in the annual touring-cyclists ranking. Passau plays a central role here: the City of Three Rivers is a classic stage destination and a favourite starting point for the heavily used downstream route to Vienna. From here, cycle travellers roll along the banks of the Danube through the Danube valley, past monasteries, floodplain landscapes and the Schlögen loop. The judges particularly praised the continuous signposting, the high proportion of car-free paths and the good connections to rail and river shipping. Passau benefits as a hub where the Inn and Ilz valley cycle paths also converge. Tourism officials again expect numerous cycle travellers in the region for the coming season.
